Annotating Text Protocol
ELLs need to understand how to effectively annotate texts, because this allows them to engage in “close reading” with the text and thus better comprehend its meaning. Educators can facilitate these deeper interactions with texts by providing opportunities for students to connect the text to their life experiences. Teaching students specific text annotations can promote text-dependent reading comprehension and boost metacognitive literacy development.
This protocol teaches teachers how to implement this key literacy practice into classrooms.
Although comprehensive guidance comes in the form of a school-based or district-based Professional Learning Partnership with Confianza, this high-level guidance can help get educators started with or without additional support from a Certified Confianza Consultant.
